Yes. Taekwon-Do is a striking martial art built around practical self-defence, and the Riverchapel classes teach blocks, strikes, kicks and awareness alongside fitness and discipline. Adults also have access to cardio self-defence and kickboxing sessions.

Is Taekwon-Do like karate, and which is harder?

Taekwon-Do and karate are both striking arts, but Taekwon-Do is Korean and places more emphasis on dynamic kicking. Neither is 'harder' — progress depends on the student. In Riverchapel every class is grouped by age and level, so beginners are never thrown in the deep end.

How long does it take to get a black belt in Taekwon-Do?

There is no fixed timeline. Students grade through the coloured belts at their own pace, and how quickly that happens depends on attendance and effort. Head Instructor Tom Thornton advises each Riverchapel student on when they are ready to grade.
